In the Palace of Love: Comments on the Asa Di Vars of Guru Nanak
Published in Paperback by Sant Bani Ashram Inc (May, 1992)
Average review score:

Comments that bring the Scriptures aliveIn terms of Scriptures, the Sikhs possess something better than our Bible, the Guru Granth Sahib, assembled by Guru Arjan (5th Guru), who collected the writings of all true realized souls of His time or before Him. It is better because it has been transmitted exactly as is and this Sum of devotional Poetry is still available in Gurmukhi today, even on the net. What the great Saint and poet Sant Ajaib Singh Ji does in this collection of talks is to refresh and explain the Holy Teachings of all those past Masters (here mainly through the Vars, a series of verse of Guru Nanak, the first Guru) and to bring them alive again for a modern audience. A most valuable source for true seekers of God, and for all interested in religous poetry and the unity of religions.

Joan of Arc, the Heroine
Published in Hardcover by Vantage Press (May, 1997)
Average review score:

Tells the story of Joan of Arc in a most engaging manner.I teach in Magnolia, Texas and my students were fascinated with this book. They want to do more reading about historical characters now, rather than watching Walt Disney's interpretation of them. Johnson brings history to life as we watch the struggle of this brave woman.

Kaleidoscope: Stories of the American Experience
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (June, 1997)
Average review score:

Wonderful resource, from classic to the present. This is an excellent book for multicultural studies of American fiction and good for reading pleasure or educational uses. The writers included are of the best calibre and the stories varied in tone, humor and drama, tragedy and laughter. Daniela Gioseffi's story Rosa in Television Land is absolutely superb and entertaining. Excellent! I love Nathaniel Hawthorne's little known story, The Maypole of Marymount. Well done. Great anthology.

Latin for Dummies
Published in Paperback by For Dummies (15 June, 2002)
Average review score:

A fun way to start learning LatinI've always wanted to learn Latin so this is the first book I tried, as it looked fun and approachable. Well, I can tell you it does make Latin seem fun and an approachable language. I would recommend this book for the absolute beginner, who would otherwise not have access to Latin classes at school, university or otherwise, and wants to learn alone at home without feeling intimidated. Though presented in a light hearted way, the book's authors actually are Latin teachers in real life. While giving a basic and strong grounding in grammar and vocabulary, the humourous cartoons are hilariously funny and literary quotes and interesting snippets of historical information are included through the book. This book really makes you want to fall in love with Latin as a language. I'm very glad I picked this book as my starting point.

Literacies: Reading, Writing, Interpretation
Published in Paperback by W.W. Norton & Company (April, 1997)
Average review score:

Not just for studentsAs a student at Roosevelt University, I was required to purchase this book for class. This book is comprised of mostly short stories/essays with some famous (i.e. Maya Angelou & Amy Tan) and not-so-famous authors. It also includes a 'before reading' set of questions, 'active reading' discussions, context comparisons and draft suggestions.
For any of you that enjoy book discussions, this is excellent material. There is a large variety of topics covered, and can appeal to any audience. No need to wait a month to discuss what you think of the reading.
